The Sedimentary Record

Aims & Scope:

The Sedimentary Record (TSR) aims to publish high-quality, short-format, peer-reviewed, original research articles for all sub-disciplines related to soft rock geosciences. TSR articles are free to publish and free to read for everyone, and authors retain copyrights.

Peer Review:

Our peer review process is expeditious and single blind, requiring a minimum of 2 peer reviews per manuscript, although most manuscripts receive 3 reviews. We also publish the occasional editorial-style article, limited to one per year. Editorials can serve as a valuable outlet for community commentary and opinions; these are not peer-reviewed and are clearly marked as Editorial articles. For details on the types of articles we publish, see the For Authors page.

Open Access & Sponsorship:

We review, edit, and publish without charging any fees to our authors or readers, meaning TSR is a fully diamond open access journal, meaning all content is freely available to read, download, and distribute. Authors retain the copyright and full publishing rights under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.

As a diamond open access journal, there are no fees charged to authors or their institutions. The Society for Sedimentary Geology (SEPM) covers all costs related to publication using the Harleton Fund (est. 1986), which is a restricted, endowed fund to support scientific publications by SEPM. Membership in SEPM is not a requirement for article submission, and the costs of publication are not paid for by SEPM member fees. TSR does not offer advertising.

Journal Management:

As a society-sponsored journal, we strive to follow the publishing ethics and values of our community, and our volunteer editors frequently engage with and incorporate feedback from stakeholders in the soft rock geoscience community. Our mindset is community-driven, and beginning in 2021, managing editor teams serve 3-year terms. We contract Scholastica as our complete journal management system, from peer review to production to publication. In addition to the full archive available on our journal website hosted by Scholastica, SEPM maintains an archived backup.
