With a single paper published in 1908 dedicated to stromatolitic and oolitic structures found in the German Buntsandstein (Early Triassic), Professor Ernst Louis Kalkowsky (1851-1938) made a significant and seminal contribution to all later research on this topic. He provided innovative interpretations for these structures, and notably, his perspectives on stromatolites remain relevant to this day. Additionally, Kalkowsky coined the terms "Stromatolith" (equivalent to "stromatolite") and "Ooid" (equivalent to "ooid"), which were later universally accepted for similar structures
