About the Journal
Carnets Geol. is an open access journal, meaning that all content is freely available without charge to the users or their institution. Users are permitted to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without seeking prior permission from the publisher or the author(s) for any non-commercial re-use. Papers are distributed under a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0 license. It is understood that, only in the case of commercial re-use, one should seek prior permission from the publisher and/or the author(s).
Most papers are in English or French, and all include abstracts in both languages. Contributions will appear in the form of numbered issues as soon as they have been approved by the reviewers, and any necessary revisions have been made by their authors.
Prospective authors, as well as special editors (symposium volume, etc.), are requested to submit their proposals either to the publisher or to a committee member who will then forward them. Whenever feasible, all aspects of the publication process will be handled electronically.
Current issues are hosted by Paleopolis using the 'Red IRIS' server in Spain. Archives are currently hosted by the 'Red IRIS' in Spain.
The Diamond Open Access publishing project of Carnets Geol. has been supported by the SEPM since May 5th, 2020, and and by the Palaeontological Association since March 26th, 2021.
If you are hesitant to consider electronic publishing, here are the clear advantages:
(1) An ISSN (as in any "respected" printed scientific journal): ISSN 1634-0744 for the online version;
(2) Permanent archives (all papers will be included therein and freely accessible) under Paleopolis / Red IRIS (Spain);
(3) A peer-review system (the aim of the scientific and editorial committee is to promptly peer-review contributions or to immediately send them to competent reviewers);
(4) Faster publication compared to most commercially printed scientific journals (including illustrations and photographs in color);
(5) Full royalty is assured (when applicable): The Association "Carnets de Géologie" reserves the right to negotiate royalties on behalf of the author(s) for the reproduction, for commercial purposes, of any material that has published (non-commercial use remains free). When economically viable, the author(s) will receive the entire sum accrued thereby;
(6) Guaranteed readership: As of October 1st, 2023, more than 3,300 readers were registered to receive email notifications of the posting of a new contribution (registration began on June 10th, 2003). Electronic publishing facilitates access to the information required for education and research;
